Norwich Congregational Church, United Church of Christ

Thank you for volunteering to host coffee hour this Sunday!

 What to Bring:

1 quart half and half

1 gallon juice for the children

Food ideas; baked goods, fruit, popcorn, corn chips (Keep it simple. Store-bought is fine! Enough for approximately 35 adults and children)

In the summer you may wish to offer lemonade or iced tea instead of coffee and juice.

Provided by Church:

Coffee, tea, sugar, paper goods and utensils

Coffee is stored in the freezer in bags, not cans. We always serve decaf.

Tea is in the cupboard above the dishwasher. There are labels on the cupboards and drawers for other items. Please inform members of hospitality if you notice supplies are low ( ie. coffee grounds, cups, napkins)

What to do before worship:

Please notice; if floor beside dishwasher is wet, this means dishwasher never got turned off properly. To remedy, turn dishwasher on and it will drain, please mop up any water on floor.

Set up two tables, one for the children and one for everyone else. Tables are in the closet closest to the parking lot. There are tablecloths in the kitchen (located in the island across from sink) although you are welcome to bring your own. We use china cups; the professional grade dishwasher cleans them in about 90 seconds.

Start the coffee before the service starts. Please set up the coffee maker in the kitchen and plan to serve the coffee in the Parish Hall). We have large thermos pots; remember that you need to put a spout in them or they don’t work. The current coffee percolator makes about 40 cups.  Boil water for tea before the service. Then turn it off and go in to enjoy worship.

Before coffee hour begins:

Leave the service during the last hymn to allow time to pour juice, reheat the tea water, put out the half and half, and decant coffee into the thermos jugs or other pots. Unwrap your goodies.

Clean-up:

Start the dishwasher 10 minutes before you need it - it has to warm-up. Instructions for its operation are on the inside of the overhead cupboard directly above. Racks and soap are in the cabinet to the right, under the big sink.

Please put everything away when it is clean, and take home any left over food or half and half. If the dishcloths and tablecloths are dirty, please take home, wash and return.

Sweep, dry mop and remember to turn out the lights.
